7 EASY WAYS TO ROCK THE YELLOW TREND THIS SUMMER!

If you're still not sure how to rock the yellow trend for summer 2019, don't worry, for I'm here to help. I'm back with seven bulletproof ways to wear more yellow this summer. With the help of fashion illustrations (my own naturally), recent outfit photography, my redbubble shop and blog archives, I'm going to show you easy ways to wear more yellow this summer. Let's get started!

1. START SMALL (WEAR YELLOW BAGS OR INCORPORATE YELLOW PRINTS IN YOUR OUTFITS)
If you're not used to wearing yellow or you're not sure it is your colour, you can always start small. Take baby steps by opting for a yellow bag or a pair of yellow sandals. Another easy way of wearing more yellow is to choose a printed item that has yellow details. For example, you might pick up a printed dress or a graphic t-shirt with a dominant colour of your choice but still wear yellow if it is a part of print. Similarly, if there is a print you absolutely adore, for example floral print, then try to find one that has yellow details. When shopping for yellow items, try to look for things you know you will like and wear. You're most likely the person who knows your own personal style the best, so it is yourself you should ask for advice in matters of personal preference. Write down things you love to wear and see if they come in yellow. Before you buy anything new, always look in your closet!

2. FIND A YELLOW CLOTHING ITEM YOU WILL LOVE AND WEAR IT OFTEN
Finding a yellow clothing item you're love and then figuring out different ways to wear it is not only a sustainable way to rock the yellow trend, it's also good for your wallet. When I think of my favourite yellow items, there are exactly 3 items that come to my mind immediately: a vintage tartan skirt, a yellow dress from local brand Adriatic (Gabel) and a yellow jumpsuit I got in a collab last year. Regular readers of blog must have seen me wear these yellow items pretty often. If you are creative enough, you can build your whole summer vacation wardrobe around a few key pieces. Moreover, I'm literally finding new ways to wear these 3 items every day. Long story short: 'Finding at least yellow item that you'll really love is a great place to start.'

3. EXPLORE DIFFERENT SHADES OF YELLOW AND DIFFERENT PRINTS AND HAVE FUN WITH THEM, TRY OUT NEW COLOUR COMBINATIONS
My mother sewed the top you can see bellow.  It used to be crayon yellow but it grew paler with years. I'm mentioning this because people sometimes forget how many shades there are to yellow.  You don't have to go for crayon or neon yellow if crayon and neon shades aren't your thing. Pastel and pale yellow can often be treated as neutral. Another thing you should definitely try is trying out new colour combinations with yellow. Try pairing yellow with colours you like, such as for example pink or black. Moreover, remember that yellow can be worn in prints! For instance, leopard print often has yellow tones in it and  it is possible to treat leopard as a neutral (because it is such a classic). I would advise you to experiment with colours and patterns until you hit that fashion bingo.

4.  FIND THE SHADE OF YELLOW THAT WORKS FOR YOU (CHECK YOUR SKIN UNDERTONES AND FIND YOUR YELLOW PALETTE)
I already touched a bit on this in my previous tip, but finding the right shade of yellow for your skin undertone is really important. Not all shades of yellow are alike. I'm not an expert when it comes to very fair skin because mine is pigmented, but I heard it said that mustard yellow looks great on pale and fair skin tones. Bright yellow tones are recommended for olive skin (is that why I love them?) and if you have dark skin, you'll lucky because most shades of yellow will look fantastic on you. That's a very general guideline, though. There is a whole science behind finding the right palette for your skin tone so it's not something that can be put down in a few sentences. If you're new to the whole colour analysis thing, look for help online. Trying out different shades of yellow (or placing your skin colour sample next to yellow items) is also a good way to figure out what looks good on you. If you look good in something, you're probably be tempted to wear it more often. Consequently, a fantastic way to wear more yellow is to figure out what shades of yellow work best with your skin tone. Finally, if you really love some shade of yellow and feel great in it, ignore the rules and wear it.

5. THINK ABOUT YELLOW ITEMS YOU USED TO LOVE (THAT'S A GREAT PLACE TO LOOK FOR INSPIRATION!)
Take a trip down the memory lane. Do you remember a yellow item you used to love and wear all the time. Try to find something similar! If you loved something before, it was probably for a reason and that means you might love it again. Everyone tells us we should learn from our fashion mistakes, but it is just as important to learn from our fashion successes. If you owned (let's say) a pair of yellow trousers that you used to wear all the time, maybe it is time to find another pair. I rely on shopping my closet a lot and there are few vintage pieces that I love reaching for. My rule is: a clothing item you love can never get old! We often look for inspiration everywhere before we check the most obvious place: our own closets. Keeping a digital or a visual record of our outfits help too. Illustrate your win-win yellow looks or take a photograph of them for future reference.

6. ACCESSORIZE: WEAR YELLOW JEWELLERY, SCARVES OR EVEN GADGETS!
Accessories are another great way to wear the yellow trend. From gadgets to jewellery items, there are so many ways to bring the colour of sun to our daily lives. I often use yellow in my creations or DIY projects, so I ended up with quite a few necklaces and accessories with yellow details. Yellow belts and scarves are also a great way to incorporate more yellow into your outfits. I sometimes wear yellow scarves as belts or even around my straw hats. Yellow accessories just scream summer to me.

7. LOOK FOR INSPIRATION (BOTH IN VIRTUAL AND REAL WORLD)
There is no shame in looking for inspiration. If you can't figure out a way to wear yellow, why not learn from others? Take a look around, see how others are wearing the yellow trend and take notes. You can look for inspiration both online and in the 'real' world.  Explore the social media, fashion portals, magazines and books. See what the people on streets are wearing. Sometimes the best way to really get a feeling of a trend is to see it for yourself. If you don't find inspiration around you, you can always look online. Browse the internet. With some inspiration and style guidance, it might be easier to find a way to wear yellow. Lots of stylist and fashion people offer free help, tips and guidance nowadays, why not tap into that? Finally, you can also ask someone for advice. Maybe you have a friend or a family member who would be happy to help you figure out how to wear yellow?

I'll be back one of these days (with more tips for styling the yellow trend for the summer). Until then, thank you for reading and let me know: 'How do you like to wear yellow in summer?'

  2. I know it's been a while, however, these tips are genius! I find that whenever I read styling posts, they often consist of the same sort of tips, however, you included so many that I would have never even thought of. I love the idea of finding the correct shade of yellow by what works with your skintone or wearing yellow in items you already love such as dresses or perhaps scarves. All in all, excellent post – very thorough and well thought.

  3. Dear Ivana, yellow suits you not only perfectly - I love also your tips! Personally, I have a weakness for yellow and it is always funny what happens when I wear yellow. Some people give me excited feedback and other people look simple a little bit unsettled :) I know many people who don't like yellow and as I like to believe that the preferences for colours are including a message I think I know why. Please continue wearing yellow, I love it!

  5. I love the idea of a yellow bag. It is a bold color that many will shy away from but a bag is an easy way to incorporate it into a wardrobe. Your little yellow dress is adorable and looks so comfortable. I don't have anything yellow in my wardrobe that I can think of. Yes mustard is the way to go for pale skin. The tone works for me.

  12. I don't actually own any yellow clothing because it's not the most flattering color for my skintone but I do like the color because it's so vibrant. Your suggestion to start small would probably work for me so I I should consider adding a few yellow accents to my wardrobe.

  15. I think yellow kind of got a bad rap. I love this color and it was trending pretty hard last summer and during fashion week. But yes for those a bit uneasy with yellow then it is good to start slow with a bag, belt or shoes.

  19. I consider this a perfect white dress for the summer Ivana. You have the white, but with the print it's not as obvious if you do get it dirty or spill on it. Talk about functional!
And I'm like you, I just love A-line dresses!! Especially when it's warm out because they aren't so tight!!
    You look amazing!
