What To Wear Once It Gets Colder? A Mix of Classical and Trendy Pieces!

Sometimes it seems to me there are two kinds of people, those who welcome the colder weather and those who don't. The truth is perhaps to be found somewhere in between. This applies to fashion as well. Every new season offers both new possibilities and challenges. Even those who dislike winter often get excited about winter fashion. On the other hand, even those who enjoy the colder weather sometimes wonder about what to wear. How to look stylish while staying warm and comfortable? This is probably one of the most frequently asked question once it gets colder. Personally, I like to rely on winter classics such as warm boots, sweaters, long coats and so on. Once you have found your basics, adding something extra isn't difficult.

However, I also like to think outside the box, experiment a little bit, opt for vibrant colours, borrow items from my summer wardrobe and so on. Basically, my tip is to mix more classical items with those trendy or fashion forward ones. This can help make our outfits look more dynamic. If you want to look put together, but still stand out of the crowd, then a contrast between  classical winter style (in terms of colours and cuts) and eye-catching pieces might be the perfect solution.

When it comes to classics, such as trench coats for women (or men), investing in a quality piece makes sense, but if you're not sure you'll get a lot of wear from it, you can also look into more affordable options. Maybe choose a trench coat with a bit of plaid or some other detail? If you don't like to or don't want to overspend, there are plenty of affordable items you can purchase to jazz up your autumn/winter wardrobe, for example cheap blouses, tops and/ or sweaters. It's easy enough to pair them with your favourite jeans and jackets. Accessories are a great way to look more stylish. Think statement hats, scarves, bags and so on.

Speaking of winter items, I'm sharing a few picks from Chicgostyle today paired with my fashion illustrations. I do like illustrating winter outfits, it's a lot of fun. Winter is a fun season, isn't it? I have to say that I'm really looking forward to this winter. Today it's quite chilly, so I can finally get into the mood. I'm finally ready to get all of my coats out. I don't know about you but warm coats are definitely my winter essential. While I do believe that a black coat is a must have during the cold season, I like the idea behind a statement coat. A winter coat in bold colour (such as red or green) or in a bold print ( such as leopard) can be another great way to make our winter outfits more fashion forward. I think that balancing between statement and classical items is probably the easiest way to get dressed up during the winter months. What do you think?

I think we sometimes limit ourselves by assuming we have to opt for either a classical or a modern look, while in fact we can often have both. For example, you might opt for a bold print coat but make it more classical by choosing one that comes in clean lines. Similarly, you might dress in black from head to toe, but if you opt for unique or asymmetric cuts, you'll end up with an outfit that will surely attract attention. In other words, there are a lot of ways to play with fashion and have fun with clothes.

When it comes to shoes, comfort is very important to me, especially during the winter months. I always make sure that the shoes I'm wearing are warm. Even during the colder months, I often opt for heels, but ones that come in the form of boots. Ankle boots are a great autumn classic that works just as well in winter. Once it gets freezing, high boots are another fantastic option.  One thing I like to make sure of when it comes to heels is stability and nothing offers better stability than  a block heel. Heeled boots are a great way to look more feminine and put together during the winter months. Most of my winter shoes are black, but I do have a few camel, brown and grey pairs that always come in handy when I want to add a bit of colour.

What are your tips for dressing stylish and staying warm? What does your winter wardrobe looks like? Do you have a certain style or do you like to experiment? Do you follow trends? If yes, what winter trends are you excited about right now?

I really like the winter coats and boots you presented! Once when I was young I liked the winter better than today. But I love my red winter coat very much and also my golden yellow quilted jacket. And I like to use the parts in my wardrobe to create a new capsule wardrobe every year :-)

  8. To be completely honest, I don't really tend to change what colours I wear during different seasons - I tend to stick to the same, neutral colours all year round. However, I loooove cosy clothes like jumpers, warm socks, coats, etc. They are my favourite to wear, and I always look forward to colder weather because of it! I really like your picks in this post, hun. The trench coats especially caught my eye, so pretty and you could style them in so many different ways! Thanks for sharing, beaut. <3 xoxo

  15. Hey Ivana, love this illustrated fashion guide, I think is funnier and much original compared to the typical stylish posts you see on blogs or in magazines, definitely a better way to show them!

I do not what to think about Winter, we don't have a lot of cold days in Mexico (maybe just during December and January) but most of the time is sunny so when I moved to Barcelona I faced my first real winter.... even tho it is more like a cold cold autumn if you compare the temperature here to other countries in Europe, but I'd say winter and cold days are a good occasion to wear certain fabrics and to buy coats (coats are always a good thing to be worn) :)
