How To Tone Down a Bold Floral Print Dress? Outfit Proposal of the Day

Fashion illustrations and flowers go well together. Hopefully so do the straw accessories and floral print, because that is what today's outfit proposal is about. The connection between flowers and fashion illustration is what I was trying to show with my last post. Today I'm going to show you how to wear a floral print dress with straw accessories. Like many fashion bloggers out there, I'm a fan of the floral print for a number of good reasons. One of them is certainly the eye-catching appeal of floral print. Floral just never get old, do they?

HOW TO TONE DOWN A BOLD FLORAL DRESS?

The print on the floral dress I'm wearing in this post is particularly bold. It's a very eye-catching printed dress, so I decided to tone it down a bit. At times, I feel like wearing my floral print dresses in a more subtle way. Not every outfit needs to be full of contrasting colour, right? Sometimes we might feel like taking it easy and putting together something simple. How to tone florals down? Usually, when I want to wear floral dresses without drawing too much attention to the look, I stay away from the flashy accessories. This time as you can see, I opted for straw accessories. Straw is a pretty neutral material in terms of colour and that makes styling straw accessories easy. That is certainly one way to make the floral print more appropriate for every day wear. I paired this dress with a straw hat and bag. I also opted for some comfy green block heels. I think these shoes were a good choice for this bold print midi dress and they certainly made walking in the park easy.

HOW TO STYLE A STRAW FEDORA HAT?

I typically prefer wide brim hats. During the summer months, wide brim hats offer best protection against the sun. However, a fedora hat is always such a chic and elegant choice. Straw accessories have been all the rage this summer, and when I saw this cute straw hat in a shop, I just couldn't resist. A fedora hat is, by definition, a hat with a soft brim and an indented crown. Fedora hats can be made out of variety of materials. I opted for a straw one. Hopefully, the sun won't be as strong now that the summer is coming to its end, and a small brim will be enough for now. I've already tried styling this hat with a number of my summer looks. It will be interesting to see whether I will be able to style this straw fedora hat during the autumn months. If I were to get another fedora hat this year, I'd want something like this transparent white one. Styling a straw fedora hat in summer is actually pretty easy. It is the kind of hat that looks good worn with everything. Because of its boyish origins, it's perfect to freshen up and modernize a typical ladylike outfit, like this midi dress combo I'm wearing today. Fedora's hat always look effortless and chic. At least so it seems to me. Do you like fedora hats? Do you wear them?

How do you like to wear florals? What is your go to outfit when it comes to florals? I like to wear florals in variety of ways and to be honest I don't think I have a favourite way to wear them. I also enjoy wearing different kind of floral prints. Now that summer is slowly coming to its end, I feel a sudden need to wear all my floral dresses. Not that I won't wear them this autumn as well. I'm actually looking forward to trying to snuggle a bit of floral print into colder months. But there is something about the end of the summer that makes me want to wear a distinctly summer outfit. Well, today's outfit is fairly simple, at least according to my standards. You can never go wrong with a nice floral dress. Are you still wearing your floral dresses? Are you trying to get the most out of summer? This was a very comfortable effort to wear, and equally important, it felt right. It turns out that styling a bold floral print dress for day is not that hard. Sometimes a bit of simplicity goes a long way.

  17. Hi Ivana,
Floral dresses are my weakness. I love everything in florals and straw hat is the thing I always prefer to have in summer. Usually Indian women don't wear hats but I love it. I believe that these hats add some more style in your look. Your dress is so cute. I love the colour combination of this dress. You look perfect with that hat.
Hey I really loved the first photoshopped picture, how did you do that😀.😘
    Have a nice day.
    Kisses.

  24. Outfit on point Ivana! Flowers would never go out of style and summer is the perfect season to pull them out, I feel that sometimes they are difficult to combine and mix with other garments but when you manage to do it (even with other prints) the result is so photo whorty ;)

  25. You look absolutely beautiful in your bold dress and straw accessories! I've never thought of using straw material as "toning it down", though I wear such accessories all the time. But you're right, especially if they are a neutral color (my African basket, for example, is all sorts of bold colors - not so much for toning it down).

Love love love to see the many playful Ivanas in one spot!!! So fun - it makes me smile. :)

Of course, I also love floral prints - I wore a floral dress just yesterday, and actually I wore a floral jacket with it as well. Double floral! my goodness! :)

I hope all is well, my dear, and I am looking forward to your lovely posts, always!
    Sending you love!

  27. Wow, you look really chic in the photos! I like how you toned down the bold floral dress. It's something that I do whenever I wear a bold piece, whether it is a print or color - to go muted with the rest of the outfit so the focus can settle on the main attraction. As I have mentioned, I never wear hats, hahah! But this straw fedora hat of yours is something else as I often see them in some type of insulating fabric. I'm certain this will be perfect for a mild Autumn and summer there. Always love a good walk in the park and I hope to see more of your looks in floral :) xoxo
