How To Turn Disposable Coffee Cups Into Artsy Containers (DIY Project of the Day: Upycling)

Hello! Today I'm back with another DIY project. You know how much I love upcycling, right? So, I decided to turn two old cardboard coffee cups in containers. These two cups were made from recycled material (like most of coffee cups). Still, I rarely pick up coffee in disposable cups for a number of reasons. One of them is that I've read that only 1 percent of disposable coffee cups ever gets recycled despite the fact they're made from recycled material because apparently the whole process of recycling them is complicated. So, disposable coffee cups are made from recycled material, but are not being recycled themselves and it seems to be this big environmental problem. Anyhow, if you're interested in recycling, this might be a  fun idea for you. 




 I think I only bought take away coffee a few times and every time I used the cup for something creative because it just feels wrong to throw it in the trash. We all know that plastic coffee cups are an environmental concern, but paper ones aren't good for the environment either. It is much better option to just bring your mug with you. Well, people rarely pick up coffee in these cups here because we drink coffee espresso and you kind of have to drink espresso in one sip but I read that in some places people use a lot of disposable coffee cups and that's a big environmental concerns for those countries. However, let's not stray away from topic too much.  Let's talk about what I did with  these two cups. 

TURING COFFEE CUPS INTO CUTE CONTAINERS

Let me explain how I made these. Firstly, I decorated these two cups with a decoupage technique with the help of the same napkins I use for all my DIY projects. Secondly, I made little drawings and glued them onto the cups. Finally, I used some paint to finish them off. I think they turned out quite nice. I use one of them to keep some of my needles and thread (the ones I use most often) and I use the other one to keep some of my coloured pencils. I like how they look, so I would say this DIY project was a success. If I had more of them, I would make more containers like this, but it would really be besides the point if I bought them only to turn them into containers because the whole point behind this DIY is upcycling.

    Dear Ivana, you look very elegant in your styling of today and I like the mix of the colours! I neither use often disposal coffee cups as I have the same opinion like you that they are bad for the environment. Therefore, I like your DIY - hopefully a lot of people will copy your idea as it is really a pity that all these many coffee cups are going to the trash. Thanks for sharing!

    Such an easy DIY and a great way to reuse disposable coffee cups! I have my own cup I take to cafes but sometimes I forget and I'll usually try not get a drink that day so that I don't have to contribute to landfill!

    I really like your sequin dress you are wearing here too :)

    What a great idea though I do not order drinks from these cups, now I've got some creative ideas thanks to you. I think the concept of upcycling is really wonderful for the environment. In this post, I'll review " Forgiveness Day" , a science fiction novella that is a part of the Hainish Circle. Published in 1995, "Forgiveness Day " won multiple awards.
