Illustrating a Runaway Look From Miu Miu Autumn Winter 2018 Collection (Fashion Illustration of the Day: Watercolour)

Today I'm sharing with you a new fashion illustration of mine. The medium is pencil and watercolour on paper. I illustrated a look from Miu Miu Autumn Winter 2018 collection. Miuccia Bianchi Prada is a very talented designer and I for one have always loved her designs. Perhaps the devil does wear Prada (who knows?), but that shouldn't stop us from admiring this brand. Miuccia's collections never disappoint, but this one was particularly eye-catching. This Miu Miu collection was so bold and beautiful that I simply had to illustrate a look from it. I opted to illustrate this black midi dress with a bold yellow lettering. Scroll down if you want to see the painting process and read my thoughts on this collection.

Illustrating this dress was a lot of fun. I'm really not an expert when it comes to watercolour, I'm much more knowledgeable about oil and acrylic paints but I'm going to share my painting process just in case someone is interested. Perhaps those who know more about watercolour will say that I'm doing it all wrong, I really don't know that much. There are so many mediums in painting and perhaps it is not possible to be equally good in all of them. I mostly use watercolours to work on my fashion illustrations.

Anyhow, here it goes. This is the first layer of paint. Before I had started applying watercolour paint, I made a sketch in pencil. I wanted to catch the model in mid walk, to make it look like one leg is just about to step down, I'm not sure have I managed to do that, but that's what I was going for.

I didn't base this illustration so much on the photograph as on the video I saw. It is easier for me to illustrate clothes when I see them 'in motion'. This is why I usually look for collections in YouTube. It is not always possible to accurate asses materials just from photographs. When I watch collections I usually mute the videos. I know that music is supposed to be an important part of a fashion show, but I prefer to see the clothes in silence. I'm not sure why, that's just how I am.

If you're wondering about the watercolour brand, I honestly don't know. I got this one at the art course, and I didn't remember to ask. I might invest a bit more into watercolours once I feel like I'm getting better at all this aquarelle thing. I will probably continue to make fashion illustratuions in this media, but I will probably continue to use other mediums as well.

I wish I knew the name of the model, she's gorgeous. Why don't they list the names of the models who walk the fashion shows? Unless they're famous or you know them by face, it is really hard to find out the names of models who walk the shows. Or maybe there is some place where you can look for it? I don't know. So, if you know the name of this model let me know so that I can name her.

Bellow you can see how this illustration looks like with a second layer of paint. After the first layer of paint dried, I added the yellow lettering. Once that second layered dried, I added another layer of paint and finishing touches. At least I think I did. I'm not sure is this fashion illustration really finished or not. I like how it looks, I prefer it to other I made recently but I change my mind a lot. Sometimes it seems to me that my art is terrible or even worse mediocre, sometimes I love it. It's a constant struggle, but it is also a lot of fun.

I'm so in love with this collection. I feel like it's  quintessentially British, even if it's actually Italian and the Italian influences are clearly there.  Maybe it is a mix of the two that appeals to me so much.  It makes me think of the sixties and seventies, of Beatles and David Bowie. The new Miu Miu girl seems to be quite strongly unapologetic and fabulously fashion forward. My kind of girl. What do you think? Have you seen this Autumn Winter Miu Miu collection? Do you like it? I will totally wear these designs as soon as I win the lottery.

Lately, I've been experimenting with digital editing of my art. Here I added some stickers to my illustration. Black and yellow combo often makes me think of bugs. Maybe that is why I love them so much. Have I ever told you that I love bugs? I don't like spiders, but techically speaking spiders aren't bugs. Yes, spiders are not insects, they are arachnids (managed to spelled it from second attempt!). The thing with black and yellow is that it offers a very strong contrast. A contrast that I personally love.

All your comments mean a lot to me, even the criticism. Naravno da mi puno znači što ste uzeli vrijeme da nešto napišete, pa makar to bila i kritika. Per me le vostre parole sono sempre preziose anche quando si tratta di critiche.
