Beauty and the world / Ljepota i svijet ( Buna, BIH)


Dostoevsky believed that beauty can save the world. I believe it too. Because we can find beauty within ourselves. It is a part of us, but only if we choose it to be. We are given the gift of choice. That in itself  is beautiful. We can search for beauty, treasure it and remember it. It can become a part of us. Looking at these photographs, I'm reminded how comforting beauty can be, but this is only so if we meet it if an open heart, if we don't try to own it. For true beauty is not something that can be bought or earned. It is a gift to be accepted. A gift we should be grateful for.

Dostojevski je rekao da ljepota može spasiti svijet. I ja u to vjerujem. Jer se ljepota može naći unutar nas samih. Ona je dio nas, ali samo ako ju odaberemo. Dobili smo dar izbora. To je samo u sebi lijepo. Možemo tražiti ljepotu, vrjednovati je i sjećati se nje. Ona može postati dio nas. Gledajući ove fotografije, prisjećam se koliko ljepota može utješiti dušu, ali ovo je istina samo ako je dočekamo otvorenoga srca, ako je ne pokušamo posjedovati. Jer istinska ljepota nije nešto što se može kupiti ili zaraditi. To je dar koji se prihvaća. Dar na kojemu trebamo biti zahvalni.

      yes, he said it in one of his novels, I'm not sure what the title would be in English, but literally translated it is White nights. He said that the world (meaning humanity) could go on without any nation, but it couldn't go on without beauty. Search for beauty is what makes us human.

    Slažem se, naravno. Lepota je kompleksna kategorija, a žao mi je što se često vezuje za nešto provšno. Ona je mnogo dublja i moćnija nego što to možda na prvi pogled deluje. Kad smo već kod lepote, to mesto je svakako sinonim za nju. Da mi je da se stvorim tu na kafici pored reke :) Uživala sam i u tekstu, i u fotografijama, a ti si mi preslatka u toj kombinaciji. Taj dugački kardigan je jako zanimljiv i podseća me na jedan moj koji mi se sad nosi ali je ipak hladnjikavo za njega...

Hello dear readers and fellow bloggers! How are you today? I'm back with another Ursula K. Le Guin book review. In this post, I'll review " Forgiveness Day" , a science fiction novella that is a part of the Hainish Circle. Published in 1995, "Forgiveness Day " won multiple awards. This novella is often published together with her other novellas from the Hainish Circle, and it can be find in various editions of Four Ways to Forgiveness and Five Ways to Forgiveness.   Thematically, this novella is a part of five stories featuring two Hainish planets, but it can definitely be read on its own. I think it functions well as a stand alone novella. I listened to it in audio form, and I didn't have any problems following the story.  The world building is simple and effective.
