Today I shall review The Island of Missing Trees by Elif Shafak. I was actually gifted this book. What a wonderful present it proved to be! Published in 2021, this postmodern novel follows two story lines and uses framed narration. The Island of Missing Trees tells the life story of a Greek Turkish couple and their adolescent daughter. This novel examines and explores a number of topics such as identity, migration, immigrant life, war trauma, memory, love and family. It's an ambitious novel that examines serious topics with due respect and sensitivity . I read it months ago, but I remember it vividly. Honestly, I cried a lot while reading this novel. DeleteI've been working so hard that i have not done any blog visiting in a while - so i've just caught up with reading some of your past posts. In one of them you mention that your health has not been so good this summer.... and now I'm also reminded of the tremendously thoughtful, empathetic comment you left on my post reflecting on my spine surgery. Thank you for the time you take in communicating your thoughts. I appreciate your insightful comments so very much. I always think of you as being a strong person; strong in spirit and intention and in creativity and also in compassion.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, this is a particularly reflective image of the sea and sky. It says 'constant'; changing yes, but constant.
and thank you for your comment...Out of all the photos I took this summer, this one is my favourite....as you say...changing but constant.
