Interview and blog recommendation

I'm always amazed by the creativity of certain people. You will have a chance to read  about one of them as I'm posting an interview with a very talented young lady from http://www.maryloucinnamon.com. The clothes she makes are so beautiful and unique and the speed with which she makes them is truly remarkable. (When it came to picking the photographs for this post, it wasn't easy because I really like all the clothes she creates.)

Who taught you how to sew? How long have you been doing it?

  My mum was the first person who introduced me in the wonderful world of dressmaking as she was a seamstress when she was younger, but I think the most it´s learning by doing and there are still many different techniques and things I still have to try or improve. I made many clothes by myself when I was a young teenager but stopped then and started again with it when I was 25, so I can´t exactly tell how long I have been sewing.

 It is said that sewing is one of the oldest textile arts, is it also your favourite one?

 Sewing is definitely my favourite one as I´m really bad at knitting or crocheting, I do like hand knitted or crocheted garments and I admire everybody who can do it, but it´s just not for me;)

 Tell us something about your fascination with the vintage style?

 I love vintage style because I adore woman back then, how glamorous they were and how confident and proud of being women. I don´t want to say that we are today less women, but the style of the 50´s or 60´s is just so much more fun and fabulous to me. I really have a thing for bold colours and wild patterns and well also in fashion there is nothing real new, everything repeats.


 Who in your opinion is the biggest present day style icon?

Honestly I don´t even know half of the present day style icons, they change every minute I think. But I really like Gwen Stefani, Helena Bonham Carter and (surprise;) Dita von Teese.

How do you get inspiration for your dresses?

 Sometimes I get inspiration from Movies or fictional characters in books and series, but also from art or songs or fashion history.

What is your favorite pattern?

 I´m between Gingham and Polka Dots ;)

 Do you read fashion magazines?

I only read fashion magazines when I´m at my hairdresser or in the waiting room for any doctor;)

 What kind of fashion blogs do you like?

 I especially love blogs of creative or crafty people and people who don´t follow fashion too strictly or take it to serious, it always should be fun in my opinion.

 What historical period are you fascinated with?

 In "wearable" fashion I adore the the fifties and sixties but I´m also very interested in everything medieval, not only fashion, also history and architecture.

 Who is your favourite writer?

 My absolutely favourite writer is Oscar Wilde. I don´t even know how many times I´ve read The Picture of Dorian Gray and I also love the short stories like The Nightingale and The Rose.

 What is your favourite film?

The Lord of the ring movies and now also the Hobbit, I'm absolutely addicted to it.

Greta Garbo or Marlene Dietrich ? 

Greta Garbo, she is pure mystery.

 Who is your favourite designer?

Vivienne Westwood. Since I was 14 I admired her not just for her work also for the strong personality.

 Tell us something about your style influences?

 Those influences change quickly ;) well, I will be always influenced by my love for past eras for sure, I love circle skirts and wiggle dresses, but I´m also not  stuck in one decade. I let myself be influenced honestly by anything I see but most importantly I´m always influenced by my current mood;)

FORGIVENESS DAY BY URSULA K. LE GUIN (BOOK REVIEW AND AN AUTUMN STYLING)

Hello dear readers and fellow bloggers! How are you today? I'm back with another Ursula K. Le Guin book review. In this post, I'll review " Forgiveness Day" , a science fiction novella that is a part of the Hainish Circle. Published in 1995, "Forgiveness Day " won multiple awards. This novella is often published together with her other novellas from the Hainish Circle, and it can be find in various editions of Four Ways to Forgiveness and Five Ways to Forgiveness.   Thematically, this novella is a part of five stories featuring two Hainish planets, but it can definitely be read on its own. I think it functions well as a stand alone novella. I listened to it in audio form, and I didn't have any problems following the story.  The world building is simple and effective.
