winter is in the air

A part of me wishes that I can tell you that the spring is in the air but alas I very much feel the cold.  The other part of me doesn't really care that much about the low temperatures because I know I can always dress warmly. It is not like I have to worry about freezing to death. Cold just means more clothes and more clothes sometimes equals more fun. The glass is always half full, right? Anyway, I think what bugs us about winter is not so much cold as the absence of sun. On a sunny day I always feel like it is spring even when it is cold...and there is more to spring than just warm weather. It is as everything is coming to life again. Still, a part of me responds to the serenity of the winter. How do you feel about it? Dressing colourfully can be just what we need in winter. The photo is taken indoors in company of some M.M posters. Like many, I have a thing for this iconic lady.

Marilyn Monroe said : " A sex symbol becomes a thing. I hate to be a thing." and I think she had a good point. I often see  people looking at celebrities as things, as some kind of public property. I'm not the one to talk overly negatively about show business or fashion industry because there is always more than meets the eye.

One shouldn't be superficial when talking about serious matters so I'll leave that subject for the future. There are certainly a lot of negative aspects of the movie and the fashion industry, (the one that saddens me the most is the one that Marilyn was talking about) but there are also the positive ones and by making rash judgement we're not really helping anyone, are we?

Positive thinking can be a great thing, but it doesn't mean that we shouldn't use our head. If we don't face the dark, it overtakes us and that goes as much for our inner as the outer world. In the light of the book by Mende Nazer that I have read yesterday, I can say that there is nothing worse than when a human being treats another human being like a thing.

Who is Mende Nazer?
Mende Nazer was abducted as a child and  sold into slavery. The things she went trough are hard to imagine or describe. I often write reviews about books (goodreads) but I couldn't write a review about this one. Her memoir literally gave me nightmares.  She managed to escape to freedom eventually but many were not that lucky. Mende Nazer is only a few years older than myself. Who knows how many slaves there are out there? How can anyone of us be truly free when so many are imprisoned?

Today I would like to recommend you to read her book Slave: My true story or just read one of her interview and take a moment to think about it.
