FASHION ILLUSTRATION, A DRESS FROM VALENTINO SPRING 2019 READY TO WEAR COLLECTION

Hello darlings! Right now I feel so high on that fashion week adrenaline, that's all I seem to think about. Does that ever happen to you? The fashion shows I have seen so far have all been fabulous. There are so many dresses and designs that I want to illustrate and I  think I have picked the perfect look to start with. Today I'm back with another fashion illustration. I already illustrated one of Valentino's dresses (here you can see my illustration from Valentino Couture 2019 collection), but today I decided to illustrate another runaway looks of theirs and this time from Ready to Wear 2019 collection. This deep V neck dress caught my eye instantly, and I just knew I had to illustrate it. Moreover, the model that wore is incredibly beautiful. Scroll down to find out more about this fashion art of mine.

I don't know if you have noticed, but fashion illustrators have gone head over heals with Pierpaolo Piccioli and his Spring collection. His couture 2019 collection for Valentino is the talk of the town. I follow a lot of fashion illustrators and my feed is literally filled with Valentino's illustrations right now. I saw a lot of fashion illustrators illustrate the dress I illustrated a few days ago (and I understand why, it is a great dress to draw). I don't remember seeing them this excited about a show. Everyone is praising Pierpaolo Piccioli and the designs he has created for Valentino. Not just the fashion illustrators and artist but the industry itself. There is a lot of talk about this designer and his collections in fashion publications. What to say? It seems like the house of Valentino is lucky to have him. I couldn't resist illustration his designs, either. Scroll down to see the making of  process.

Now, a few words about my fashion illustration. The medium is oil pastels on mixed media paper. I used a mixed media paper from brand Strathmore (not sponsored) and pastels from brand Russian art brand Sonet (not sponsored either). I actually got both the pastels and the paper as a gift. I already used this paper to illustrate Natalia Lialina (check out her blog IN THE WRITER'S CLOSET here), who is also the person who gifted the Strathmore art block to me.

I have to say that these mix media art block has proven to be exceptional. I used this paper to create anything from pencil drawings, aquarelle to acrylic paintings and they have always served me well. This was the first time I used these pastels, though. I don't typically paint or draw with pastels, I might have tried it a few times but not with real ones and not seriously. In fact, I don't think I really used pastels ever since I was a kid. These oil pastels as a gift from another Russian friend, and so far I really love them. I hope I'll be able to find Sonet in stores. If I continue to work with pastels, I'm definitely sticking with this brand.

Now  that we have got technical details out of the way, let's talk a bit about the person I illustrated. The model is Assa Barjadi. She is utterly gorgeous, isn't she? A lot of illustrators don't even draw the face, and I do get because the focus in a fashion illustration has to be on the clothes. Moreover, I doubt that real fashion designers have the time to draw faces, not unless they want the face to be the part of the message. That's what I want to, and that si why I always do take the time to draw the face. For me the person wearing the clothes is just as interesting as the clothes themselves.

  6. It's wonderful that you like the designs and that you feel so inspired. Your drawing is beautiful. You really have a unique take on the dress and I love that you add the face to your drawings. I agree that often the person wearing the clothes may be the focal point just like the clothes.

How do you managed to many creative stuff? You're a hero to me :)

I loved your interpretation of Valentino, this brand is like a dream coming to the real life with vaporous dresses and all those delicate textures! I also want to add that I prefer the color you chose over the original, yours have more magical feelings *___*

  41. Dear Ivana, you get better and better! Wow, this illustration is perfect and you got a fantastic inspiration! But I have to admit I can't remember I ever watched a fashion show on TV or on the Internet :) I visited only once in my life a realy fashion show as our son gifted on Christmas of 2017 my husband and cards for a fashion show in Munich. It was nice but I assume not that perfect and professional as the fashion shows of the true designers you watch. Have a nice weekend!
