MY FAVOURITE PAIRS OF JEANS: A VISUAL GUIDE TO WEARING JEANS
A VISUAL GUIDE TO WEARING JEANS IN AUTUMN AND WINTER
Let's face it. Jeans will never go out of style. A good pair of jeans is both comfortable and functional. They have been popular ever since they were invented. Durable, comfortable and reliable, a good pair of jeans is hard to resist. Jeans are pretty fabulous, aren't they? Today I'm going to talk about my favourite pairs of jeans for Autumn/ Winter and how I happened to find them. Most of the outfit shared will be Autumn ones, but I'll share a few options for colder weather as well. I'll also share a few fashion illustrations of mine because jeans are actually a lot of fun to illustrate.

Durable, comfortable and reliable, a good pair of jeans is hard to resist. Jeans are pretty fabulous, aren't they? Most of the outfit shared will be Autumn ones, but I'll share a few options for colder weather as well. I'll also share a few fashion illustrations of mine because jeans are actually a lot of fun to illustrate.
Most jeans I own are vintage, and I either found them in a closet or got them from someone. Oddly enough, I don't shop for jeans that often. I think it has to do with my love for vintage clothes. When I was a kid, my favourite thing to do was to roam through my mother closet. I would do the same when we would go to visit my grandmother. I always loved vintage, even when I didn't know that vintage could be a thing. Over the years, I collected quite a few vintage pair of jeans. I'm also the type to get overly attached to clothes and wear my favourite pair of jeans until they start falling apart. I've turned thirty, so I guess it's a matter of time before some of the jeans I wore as a teen could be labelled as vintage, right? Technically speaking, clothes I wore as a ten year old could already be classified as vintage. Funny to think about my old jeans that way, but it's true. When I do shop for jeans, I usually look for those that are high rise. I sometimes buy medium rise but never low waist ones. I don't like low waist jeans (or pants for that matter) My favourite cut is flare cut, but I also like the classical one.
FLARE JEANS
Flare jeans have been a weakness of mine since I can remember. Flare jeans are a classic in my book. This cut is hands down my favourite one. It's very flattering on a curvy shape as it balances our figure. I think it does the same job with other body shapes. If most jeans don't work for you, try the flare cut. You don't have to go all out. If statement flares are too much for you, medium flare is a very good option as well. I struggle with unwanted weigh-losses due to health problems sometimes. My hips are wide, but when I loose a lot of weight, my figure can change. Basically, I'm not an hourglass I used to be. However, even when I loose weight, I still find the flare cut flattering. I think it's a great cut altogether. To my eyes, it looks flattering on most figures. To get that elongating effect, don't forget to opt for a high rise cut.
GREY FLARE JEANS
I love grey jeans, there is something so classical about them. This old pair of flares doesn't fit well anymore, they are too big on me now, but I still keep them in my closet just in case. Bellow you can see how I styled them with a white vintage jacket and a green vintage scarf. This was one petty cute autumn combo, if I may say so myself. Grey jeans seem to go well with everything.
AMADEUS DIY PAINTED GREY FLARE JEANS
I have another pair of grey flare jeans. This pair isn't vintage, but it's very very old, older than a decade. I added a bit of a DIY element to them by painting circles on them with DIY paints. This is one of my comfiest pair of jeans. The cotton is so soft, as is always the case with this brand. They are probably the most comfy jeans I own.
BLUE FLARE JEANS
I have a few pairs of blue flare jeans, some are more, some less flared.
VINTAGE BLUE FLARE JEANS WITH DIY HAND PAINTED FLOWER PATTERN
WASHED OUT BLUE FLARE JEANS
JEGGINGS
I don't really own any skinny jeans because I find them to be uncomfortable, but I have a pair of Jeggings that I wear pretty often. I know that technically speaking, jeggings are not jeans, yet they seem pretty close, so I'm putting them into this category. I do only have one pair, but I've worn it many times, so it deserves a mention.
DISTRESSED VINTAGE WASHED OUT FLARE JEANS
Now, this is a pair of jeans that wasn't distressed to start with but it ended up being distressed just because I wore this pair until it started falling apart. That's supposedly how this ripped/distress jeans came to be. Some fashionistas just couldn't part with their fav pair of jeans. Hard to blame them, as for most people there is probably nothing more comfy than their favourite pair of jeans, right? In addition, I hand painted these jeans with textile paints. If you take a look at the photograph on the left, you'll see the jeans painted with black textile pain. On the right, you can see what they look like today. Hand painted with red paint and distressed. I do enjoy customizing my jeans.
STRAIGHT CUT HIGH RISE VINTAGE JEANS
As much as I enjoy wearing flares, there are also some classical cut vintage jeans in my closet. One pair in particular seems to rule them all. Too bad I've gotten so much wear out of them by now (not to mention there were vintage jeans to start with) that I probably won't be able to wear them in the future. All good things must come to an end, as they say. I still wear them occasionally.
CLASSICAL CUT VINTAGE LEVI JEANS
I found this vintage pair of Levi's jeans in my closet. I'm assuming they used to belong to the hubby. He was always skinny, but in the past even more so. It's odd to think we can wear the same pair of jeans. Anyhow, this classical cut is very easy to style and works particularly well with casual outfits. I think it can look flattering when styled right.
CAPRI JEANS
I'm a big fan of capri jeans. I like them so much that I often wear them in Autumn/Winter as well. This pair from Amadeus jeans (a Croatian brand) has been a personal favourite for jeans. It's very comfy and it is surprisingly easy to style. All you need is the right pair of boots! Sometimes I also like to style these jeans with heels. If you have nice ankles, why not show them around?
THAT WOULD BE IT, MY FAVOURITE PAIRS OF JEANS FOR AUTUMN AND WINTER.
So, what is your opinion about jeans? My personal preference has changed a lot during the years. As a teenager, I used to wear jeans all the time (like most teens), then in my twenties I got a bit tired of them. However, since I turned thirty, I embraced them again. Some time ago, I wrote on my blog the following paragraph:
"There was a time in my life when I refused to wear jeans. I banished them from my closet and wore only skirts and dresses (and suit trousers). That phase lasted for a year or two. Nowadays, I love my jeans and casual outfits. However, I think that this 'no jeans' phase was ultimately beneficial for me as it helped me develop my own personal style. Furthermore, it made me try new things, look at clothes from another perspective. Jeans can be great but it is easy for them to become a sort of uniform for everyday. Sometimes limitations can be really liberating. Sometimes all we have to do is to break our routine a little bit."
Indeed, there was a time when I stayed away from jeans. But, now I really enjoy wearing them. Isn't it interesting how different clothing items can have a different meaning for us in different times of our lives?
Today there are many options to choose from. What is important is to find out what works for us. Finding jeans that fit well is so important, don't you agree? We need to find something in which we will feel comfortable in, which isn't hard given the wide selection of cuts available. Body type is something to consider, but ultimately the right jeans for us are something that will most depend on our personal preference.
Tell me, what are your favourite pair of jeans for autumn and winter?
I love jeans in the cooler weather! I do have one pair of flared jeans but skinny jeans make up the majority of my collection now - I've been cutting it down over the years, I used to own a lot of denim but I'm trying to be more selective. You wear all your jeans so well and I like that you have lots of different styles :)
ReplyDeleteHope that you are having a great start to your week! It's been hot and dusty here, summer has arrived! :)

DeleteI am probably the only person who does not wear jeans. I grew up in a religious environment where women only wore skirts/dresses and I was in my 30 s before I started to wear trousers. My daughter keeps trying to persuade me to buy some jeans and this post will give me plenty of ideas. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll find a pair you'll enjoy.

Baci!

DeleteI think it's fun to change up our styles at times. I feel like jeans are everywhere for everyone. So I can understand wanting to wear something different for a time. But they are classic, and it's fun to try different styles!!

DeleteGreat denim inspiration! I'm not as versatile as you with my jean choices since I tend to favor a cut that is in between skinny and straight and that's pretty much all I wear because I find it the most flattering. I prefer to steer clear of trends and just stick with the classics.
ReplyDeletethanks Rowena. A classical cut is always good.

DeleteDear Ivana, thanks a lot for this wonderful post! It is really interesting that you refused to wear jeans for 1 or 2 years and I agree to your conclusion that you found due to this experience finally your personal style. It happens also to me that there are times when I like jeans more ... or less. Last summer e. g. I wore rarely jeans but now during this fall I recogised that I came back to jeans again :) You are right, that flare jeans are so flattering. I love the other kind of jeans you show here as well.

DeleteHey dear Ivana, hope you're having a nice week.
ReplyDeleteI like your collection of jeans, I feel like you have a different kind for different occasions and the most important part is that jeans are a good investment, actually they are a basic thing to have in every wardrobe and the possibilities are endless: you can go from a formal outfit to a casual one in a matter or seconds depending of the other clothes of accessories, that is such a nice thing!
I'm currently trying to avoid the skinny jeans, I am more into the flare and wide leg styles, I feel like you can play with the proportions of your outfits ;)
Love all your options, but the one with the painted flowers is such an statement piece that is way beyond cool :D
Best regards from Spain, dear

ReplyDeleteHello, dearest Ivana,
ReplyDeleteit is true, in different times we love different garments. Currently I prefer dresses and skirts and comfortable pants. I also have some jeans - but not nearly as many as you! I'll wear them more often in the winter. I prefer like you flared jeans and straight cut. And I own only a single pair of jeggings. The narrow cut is not very good for me and I find it uncomfortable. I especially like your creative painted jeans! They are great!
Hugs my dear!
