What am I currently reading? Coming Home by Rosamunde Pilcher

Today something a bit different. I'll talk a bit about the book I'm currently reading. So far I like it, but I will save my final judgement until I reach that final page. When will that be exactly, I'm not sure because this is one of those + 1000 pages and free time made itself scarce lately. This is actually my first novel by Rosaminde Pilcher. She is a British author of impressive 28 novels as well as several short stories. What kind of book is this? It is a historical romance novel, set in WW2 Britian, that follows the life story of certain Judith.  Apparently there is also a British TV serial where the young protagonist Judith is played by Keira Knightly ( I just googled it, filmed back in 1998, only 3 years after the novel was originally published). What else to say? I don't usually read romance novel, but I heard this one was really good, so I'm giving it a try. So far, so good.

“Alone. She realized how much she had missed the luxury of solitude, and knew that its occasional comfort would always be essential to her. The pleasure of being on one's own was not so much spiritual as sensuous, like wearing silk, or swimming without a bathing suit, or walking along a totally empty beach with the sun on your back. One was restored by solitude. Refreshed.” ― Rosamunde PilcherComing Home

“She yawned and stretched, and settled back again on her pillows and thought how perfect it would be if sleep could not only restore one but iron out all anxieties in the same process, so that one could wake with a totally clear and untroubled mind, as smooth and empty as a beach, washed and ironed by the outgoing tide.” ― Rosamunde PilcherComing Home

  1. I used to read romance novel when I was 14! Hahaha! My mum didn't mind me reading it, she thinks reading is better than none but my dad hated it! LOL!

    1. yes, men usually roll their eyes. This one isn't a typical romance, I think I will end up linking it...and it is nice to change things up a little. I read a lot of classics and serious literature, so a bit of light reading might be just what the doctor order.

  2. The novel sounds lovely. I don't really read much romance novels. I prefer to read fantasy and action type novels, tbh. :P

  13. My Mum was a huge Rosamund Pilcher fan and I read quite a few of her collection. She writes really engagingly and creates likable character, something I often struggle with if I don't care about any of the people in a book.
I'm currently reading Property by Valerie Martin. A fictitious work set in the early 19the Century of an unhappy wife of a vicious plantation owner with no morals. Dark but compelling. x

Nisam čitala ništa njeno, a eto, toliko romana.

  20. I absolutely have no time for reading right now, what is spooky to me, because I am in the habit of reading a lot... Well, I try to read one book about history of art in the Middle Ages in France, and I've bought recently a book with photos of Lviv. ( Lviv is a town in Ukraine, which was in Poland before WWII, and a part of my ancestors is from Lviv :-)

Preko nje sam baš zavoljela i povijesne romane i tu "finu" beletristiku...

All your comments mean a lot to me, even the criticism.
