One special scarf (outfit post) / Jedan poseban šal (odjevna objava)

First of all thank you all so much for leaving such wonderful, insightful, intelligent and well written comments on my last post regarding ethics and clothes. I immensely enjoyed reading them and they made me think about the issues and challenges of manufacturing clothes even more that I usually do (and I've been thinking about this issue for some time now).  Yesterday on the anniversary of Bangladesh tragedy, an excellent French documentary film on this subject called Toxic Clothing was aired on Croatian National Television. Have you watched it?

Prvo hvala svima na takvim divnim, dubokim, inteligetnim i dobro napisanim komentarima na mojoj zadnjoj objavi o odjeći i etici. Bilo ih je zadovoljstvo pročitati i naveli su me da još  nego inače više razmišljam o izazovima i problemima proizvodnje odjeće (a o tim problemima razmišljam već neko vrijeme). Jučer na godišnjicu tragedije u Bangladešu na HRT3 je emitiran odličan dukumentarac na ovu temu Otrovna moda. Jeste li ga gledali?

    You look wonderful in that coat, Ivana. This thing is really so special! All your outfits are always so original and gratifying to the eye!
    I've heard about Bangladesh tragedy, of course. I would be really interested to see that documentary film on this subject. Sometimes I do scared of the world we live in, money makes people crazy and human's life means nothing anymore. That's really awful.

      Saying that you should work as a freelancer I mean you could try to work for any publishers, to write some reviews or some interesting articles on important subjects. I don't have any exact offers, but I believe you are able to do that. You seem to be a really good columnist who can deliver the goods, that both provides news, humor and opinion:)
      Anyway, I understand, such job is hard to find, though.

      yes, it is really hard to get payed for writing. These days everyone expects you do it for free until you get famous (and that may never happen). Thanks for your suggestion, though. I do try to get such jobs (among others). I'm always sending my CV and job applications everywhere...somebody will answer some day.

    Hi Ivana, That sure is a unique scarf. I was reading your last post. Sadly, I do not know much about ethical dressing. I read about ethical fashion but hadn't really given much thought in my daily life. I did try to practise ethical beauty for a while and it is really difficult to 100% avoid unethical beauty as even daily things I use like shampoo etc are not. I do try to buy ethical products whenever possible though like I mention, it is difficult to practise it 100%. It involves a huge change in lifestyle.

      I don't think it is even possible to do it 100 percent...I think that trying to do our best is good enough...better to put our energy into our work and be useful and socially involved, then be so obsessed with a certain issue (environment or whatever that may be) that we become paralyzed and unable to act in our everyday life because all we do is rotated around that one thing (and some people do push it too far that way).

    I like that your scarf was had knitted by your granny - you must have got your DIY skills from her! :)

    I haven't seen the documentary, but I have heard about many of the factory disasters. I think it's interesting that now in Australia we have a yearly report that rates all of our fashion brands on how ethical they are - it goes into a lot of detail about even where they get the cotton for their clothes and how they treat the cotton works, and grades them all. I'm pleased to see some of my favourite brands aren't on the worst rating, but there is definitely a lot more they could be doing. B+ isn't good enough, A+ would be much better!

      I think that is the case...she is a very talented lady who knows her away around everything, from knitting to construction....I watched her mix concrete with her bare arms and build stone stairs- all this in her eighties!

    I guess crafty DIY skills run in the family. The scarf is so beautiful...your granny did an excellent job :)

    When I was a little child, my mum used to knit a lot too. I still have one jumper she must have knitted when I was 8 or 9. Back then it was huge and I never wore it because the wool was so itchy, but now, almost 20 years later, it fits perfectly and it's my favourite piece to wear in winter...it's like wearing a memory!

      it is quite interesting! we worry about chemicals in make up and food but apparently there are many harmful chemicals in the clothes we wear.

    oh yes, I've heard about the chemicals that can poison waters and apparently some plastic shoes (i.e non leather or natural materials could take 250 years to break down so they're pretty terrible for the environment which has made me think twice about a pair of shoes I buy now.x

      I know, it is so hard to decide what to do. I personally buy leather shoes most of the time...but I understand why some might not want to do it...vegans for example.

    Handmade clothing is the best - how lovely to be wrapped in something your granny made. When I was a child I only wanted store-bought clothes because most of our clothes were hand-made. Now I'm the reverse. I like that you're wearing your husband's jeans too.

    Pohvale baki za šal! :) Nisam gledala na vijestima ali ćitala sam na jednom blogu baš juće kako je sva ta proizvodnja u siromašnim državama slaba, da ljudi nemaju nikakva prava- sve to se već zna (ja se nadam) ali malo se preduzima u vezi s tim. In this post, I'll review " Forgiveness Day" , a science fiction novella that is a part of the Hainish Circle. Published in 1995, "Forgiveness Day " won multiple awards. This novella is often published together with her other novellas from the Hainish Circle, and it can be find in various editions of Four Ways to Forgiveness and Five Ways to Forgiveness.   Thematically, this novella is a part of five stories featuring two Hainish planets, but it can definitely be read on its own. Well, a post about art. Fashion art to be more precise.  I've been on a roll lately with my art posts. After a period of not posting my art at all, due to a variety of reasons, I started posting my art in every post. I got back to my destination art series, and now it's time for another post in my fashion art series. Friday Fashion Illustration  is somewhat of a regular feature on my blog. Today I'll share two watercolour pencil fashion illustrations of mine. I sketched both of them this Summer in my A3 mixed media sketchbook.
