Urban Fashion Illustration: Pretty in Pink ( A Brunette in a Pink Dress)

To start with, here comes  my new fashion illustration of the day. A Brunette in a Pink Dress is a mixed media painting. For most part it's a watercolour painting but I added some finishing touches with the coloured pencils. The painting was inspired by Autumn, the beautiful season we are currently enjoying. If you look closely, you'll see that I've also painted puddles. A bit of the black watercolour  paint I is spilling from the illustrated cowboy boots, but that's how imagined it.

Mixed Media Fashion Illustration

As the title suggests, the painting depicts a girl wearing a pink dress. There is a bit of layering going on. What is she wearing over her pink shirt dress? Why, a warm vest. Autumn is all about layering. Our illustrated girl also choose to wear dark brown tights and black cowboy boots. She is also holding a bouquet of flowers. How to Wear a shirt dress in Autumn? This would be my illustrated answer. Pair it with leggings or tights and cowboy boots, and you've got yourself an unique and pretty outfit. I do like how this fashion illustration turned out. I was going for a slightly artistic feel to it, with a blurry urban background. I must say I'm quite happy with how it turned out.

How is Autumn treating you? Are you ready for Winter? Today it's so sunny that Winter seems far away, but I'm sure it'll arrive in a heartbeat. At the moment, I'm enjoying this picturesque  season (whenever  I'm not terribly ill that is) and one of the things I love about this season is the ability to pick wild pomegranate. Yes, you've read that right.  There are even some wild pomegranates growing near my house. In fact, a pomegranate is one of the symbols of Herzegovina.  One of the definite advantages of living in a Mediterranean climate is being able to buy (or pick) all kinds of delicious fruits. Scroll down to see a cute tiny pomegranate I picked today.

Because I quite liked this painting, I made it available in my Zazzle shop in the form of various products. I like the idea of fashion illustrations printed on clothing items. If you recall, I ordered one such tote bag this Summer and was quite happy with it. I ended up gifting it to my aunt. It was certainly interesting to see my fashion illustrations being worn in this form. I already wrote about this and the designing/customizing process that many online shops offer, so I won't repeat myself too much. It is also available as an original painting in my shop.

I also added some of my new fashion paintings to my Redbubble shop (for example here). That would be all for today. As always, thank you for all your lovely comments. One more thing.  Bellow you can also see the sketching process (for those of you who are interesting in the making of  process of this fashion illustration). As I already mentioned, I sketched this fashion illustration with pencil and then I filled it with watercolours. Take care and have a great weekend!

  2. Dear Ivana, I hope you are as well as possible ... and it is wonderful you enjoy nevertheless fall. The woman in the illustration you how here today looks exactly like you, do you know this and was this your intention? In each case I love this look with pink as I'm always love pink. And I'm really impressed you can pick pomegranates near your house. I love pomegranates and saw the first time in my live a pomegranates tree with fresh fruits in Sardina.

    1. thank you Rena. I honestly didn't notice that it might look like me, but I haven't used a reference for this one so it's possible. I think artists often paint themselves unconsciously just because we are all familiar with our facial features.

  13. What a lovely illustration. I think you managed to successfully create the artistic feel you were going for and the outfit depicted is very fresh and feminine. How lucky for you to be able to enjoy wild pomegranates now. My autumn has been busy but good. I was a little sad to see October coming to an end since it is one of my favorite months.

I also like that you do not limit yourself to the simple tools and that you go beyond by adding textures, materials and other stuff that just improve your already good work. Love her expression and the way she's moving with the bucket of flowers as the main focus item!
