Fashion illustration of the day /Modna ilustracija dana ( Bonjour Tristesse)

Selecting a title to accompany this illustration was easy. Bonjour Tristesse (meaning good morning sadness) is a well known novel written by French writer Fracoise Sagan. I've read this novel quite a long time ago, but it stayed with me. The novel caused quite a sensation when in was published, in part surely because of the fact that the author was only 18 at the time. I said that the novel stayed with me, but I can't say that I was head over heels with it. To tell you the truth, despite the fact that I enjoyed reading it, I didn't fall in love with this novel. It was interesting and full of haunting sadness, but it seemed clear to me that it wasn't a mature work of literature. A several years after I came across another novel by this author. That novel was Scars on the Soul and it was simply love at the first sight (or should I say at first reading). This second novel of hers that I read seemed to contained everything that the first novel lacked. I will recommend both of these novels to you because I do believe they both deserve to be read.  I'm kind of sorry that most people end up reading only the first. I'm often surprised by the quality of 'lesser know things', not just when it comes to literature.  Why do we people tend to assume something is better if others know about it? Do we forget that often the best things are hidden from plain sight?

Back to my illustration, it has many elements that could be connected with french chic such as : a  beret, a minimalistic dress , a pair of pointy flates and a monochrome selection of colours. Blue is one of my favourite colours.  Pointed flats are very in this season and 'off the shoulder' trend seems to be here to stay. Parisian chic has been in for quite some time and I can totally understand why. It may not be what I wear on day to day basis, but it is a style I admire. So, the reason why I paired this illustration with these two book recommendations is simple, it reminds me of both of these novels.  I'm trying to post my illustrations more frequently because I want them to be an important part of my blog. I had a little blogging crisis this month and my mind was almost made up to give up, but I decided to keep doing this. Why? Well, because I want to. It was a good moment for me to question everything so I did. I came up with some conslusition of my own and one of them is that if I want to keep this blog alive and kicking, I must make it about things that interest me. That's the best motivation, doing something that you love. For example, posts with my illustrations always get the least views, but I'm keeping them here. Blogging isn't easy, it takes a lot of patience to keep it up. Taking some time to figure out why are you doing it and what is it that you want to achieve is  can be very helpful. There are no right and wrong answers, just ones that are right for you in a certain moment.

Jednostavno jer to želim.

Time for another Sights to See, Places to Visit feature on my blog. It's been a while since my last one. However, if you scroll down I'm sure you can agree with me in my claim that this hidden gem was worth the wait. Without further ado, I'll say that the location in question is Čeveljuša near Ljubuški in Herzegovina. This place offers various recreational and sport activies. During the Summer, it is also a  popular bathing spot. I haven't tried swimmimg here myself, as this was my first visit but I'll keep it in mind for future. I certainly have a special place for river Trebižad in my heart ( I explained in one of my previous posts why this river has nine names).

What I can tell you with certainty is that this is a perfect place to relax a little. I immensely enjoyed my short visit. If you're planning to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina, keep this place in mind. Herzegovina is a region so rich in natural beauty that it never fails to impress me. Discovering its charm everyday is a source of nevernending joy for me. How one relatively tiny area can contain so much biological and natural diversity is beyond me. I hold utmost admiration for rivers in Herzegovina, they're all incredibly beautiful. I don't even how to describe their beauty, it's pure river magic.

Ovo mjesto nudi razne rekreacijske i sportske aktivnosti.

I've decided to post these four illustrations together because they seem to match well. Furthermore, if I remember well, I had painted all of them one on the same day. The medium is watercolour on paper. Prior to colouring them, I had sketched them using pencil. You could have seen those original sketches if you follow me on instagram ( for exaple here I'm holding all of these sketches in my hand). To be honest, you probably won't miss much if you don't follow me on insta as most things I post about end up here eventually.  Back to the topic at hand, I often get asked whether I use pencil for sketching and my answer would have to be that it depends. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't, depending on the effect I'm trying to achieve.

I like how these four illustrations look together, they all show outfits that are, in my opinion, very feminine and chic. The first one shows a rather bold colour combo of green, purple and pink. It may not suit everyone's taste but it something that I would like to wear. The second illustration is the most modern one among these four. I can imagine some fashionista or a fashion editor wearing something like this. Dark sunglasses completed with an interesting sweater, pencil skirt and killer heels. The third illustration shows one of my favourite trends this Spring and that is (drums please!!!) palazzo pants. I love pallazzo pants because they make every outfit more elegant and ladylike. The final illustration has a retro allure to it. I would love to have a shirt dress just like this one! I I did, I would make sure to pair it with the pointy heels from the illustration( I actually have a very similar pair to those that I painted and now I realize this pair of mine must have been the inspiration behind it).

All in all, these illustrated outfits seem perfect for Spring, hence the title 'four illustrations, one season'. I almost forgot to mention this but when I painted these illustrations, some of the body positions were inspired by models from one vintage German catalque. Sometimes it is nice to look at photographs of models from old magazines or editorials to get new ideas about  posture. I try to avoid repetion in posture when it comes to my fashion illustrations. I want my fashion illustrations to look natural, so sometimes I study the different poses, trying to figure out what work work well with clothes that I want to pain. Nevertheless, I can't say that I used any photograph as a reference. I only do that when I paint other fashion bloggers. At the point, when it comes to the clothes and the faces on my fashion illustrations , they are entirely a product of my imagination. If I ever use a photograph as a reference, I will be sure to let you know what was it exactly that inspired me. I've been toying with the idea of drawing illustrations of designer clothes but I'm not sure will anything come of it. There is so much content on my blog that I'm simply not sure is there a space for another feature.
