A little place to call my own (outfit post/ odjevna kombinacija)

Mostar. Twenty years later many buildings still bear scars of war. Some of them are decorated with graffiti. This building you can see behind me was painted during one street art festival. It used to be a bank, not that you can tell it now. While we were shooting, some tourists started following us around and they took photos at all the places we did. Not that I mind. The purpose of this blog should be to inspire somebody and that is the reason why I read other blogs, to get inspired. Still, it felt kind of funny being followed around. I felt like an unofficial tourist guide.

Mostar.

Now, about the outfit. It includes a lot of DIY stuff. I'm wearing a necklace that I made myself, from faux leather and satin cord. As fas as DIY part goes, this necklace was pretty easy, all it took was a bit of sewing. The skirt used to be my mother's and I added the lace myself after I accidentally burned the skirt while ironing. This was also a very simple DIY. The off shoulder top I got from someone a long time ago. I painted it myself with textile paints. If you look carefully, you will notice that the inscription  represents my blog, that is 'a little place to call my own'.

Majica otvorenih ramena je nečiji davni dar, a ukrasila sam ju tekstilnim bojama i natpis na njoj predstavlja moj blog, "a little place to call my own".

Now, off to Spanish square. That is the name of this lovely square. It is usually crowded, but as these photographs were taken around noon (in the hottest city in Europe) there was not a soul to be seen, besides those tourists I told you about. With the sun being that strong, I was really happy that I didn't forget my hat at that moment. I like to keep my hair long, but when I wear this hat I really like to tuck it all in. Besides, in that way I'm actually protecting my hair from the sun.

me and tourists/ ja i turisti
This is probably my favourite building in Mostar. It was build in year 1898. It is know as Old Gymnasium (because it really is old) but it is actually called Gymnasium Mostar. A word of explanation is needed here. What we call Gymnasium in this part of the world is actually a secondary school (i.e high school) that is indended to prepare its students for University. We have two types of high schools here: vocational ones and gymnasiums.

Within this gorgeous  building United World Collage is also situated. In addition, in the back of the building, you can find American Corner. I often borrow books from American Corner  because they are connected with the city library, that is you can borrow books from there with a city library card. The librarian who works for American Corner gives the best reading recommendations, so that is an additional reason why I love to stop there.

  1. Honey, thank you very much! I'm really glad you liked it. I hope you find useful and which, in a way, you inspired with the choices of looks.

I fully agree with you. The cardigans are great when used under more oversized jackets and trench coats give a touch more chic and sophisticated.

You look amazing :D Love all combination dear :D

I loved the Spanish square, so interesting that no one was there, but I can understand, the sun was very strong! I also loved the old building, so beautiful and you also look great, with this sweet skirt - I loved it! Hope you have a nice weekend, and that no one follows you around, photographing!

I'm a huge fan of grafitti and streetart as such. So nice you share it on your blog, Ivana!!!! Love the contrast to the stunning building of the Gymnasium. I'm really sure, you could make it at the fashion industry some day, Ivana! You can sketch, sew and design - you're such a talent in different ways. Wow!!

I love visiting places like that, and thinking about all the things that have happened there, both important historically, like battles and whatnot, but also smaller things. Maybe someone had their first kiss here, or read their acceptance letter to college here.

I love all the DIY elements in your outfit! It's so much more unique when you customize your clothes.

  22. So much cool stuff going on here :) First, the location. I probably would not have noticed the war damage if you hadn't spoken of it. Really adds some depth and perspective. The tourists following you around simply echo advice I gave you several weeks ago, you need to be the tourism director for your area. No one loves it more than you. Your shirt and necklace are very cool creations and fun! And I apologize in advance but I simply must tell you how wonderful it is to see those gorgeous legs again! Each time you are kind enough to share them it makes my night fantastic. So thank you and I'm sorry :) Very cute hat too!
