DIY: lederfarbe

Time for another DIY post and just in case you're too lazy to read this text or you don't have the time, there is one sentence summary that will tell you all you need to know.

Recently I got these boots and was very pleased with them because they're both warm and comfortable,  but ( don't you just hate it when there's a but) the faux leather started to peel off right away. I wore them only once and this is what they ended up looking like. I repeat: only once.

Meditating over the issue for a while, I decided not to get rid of them because they are so warm and even more importantly because they were a gift. So, I bought some leather paint (different stuff than textile paints not only in structure but in smell as well. It pretty much smells like a road kill).

As you can see, the result isn't that great. However, this leather paint worked like a charm on leather shoes ( I used it on two pairs of leather shoes on spots where they started to look old and worn. The paint just got soaked in the leather beautifully and the result was very clean.). The reason why it didn't work on these boots is probably because they're faux leather.

My recommendation is that you buy this leather paint as it is something great to have around the house. You can use it to touch up leather belts, shoes...you name it. The price is about five euros but it will probably last you a long time.

Summary: Leather paint is a handy (but foul smelling) product that will work great on all leather items but it can't be used on faux leather shoes.

  1. I've only ever used faux leather so this paint won't be much use for me but wow, there's such thing as leather paint? I must be living under the rock as I seriously have no idea of its existence before this. LOL!

  10. It's s shame the leather paint doesn't work so well on fake leather but it's good to know it does the job on real leather. i should pick some up. Thanks for the tip!

Uzas!

  33. You were so brave to use that paint, I know the smell is really terrible ! Anyway, sorry to say it but faux leather items all end up the same way...after a while, all my faux leather bags ended up cracked like your boots. I rarely buy faux leather bags or shoes for that reason, leather is much more easy to handle and it will last for much longer. Kisses

  34. Oh my goodness, how upsetting. Do I need to ask how much they cost you? I'm going to assume on the low end. I'm always afraid to buy faux leather for this very reason. I feel so bad for you. At least you had a great solution. Not you can get back to being stylish and warm. Love it.
