sugar, spice and everything nice

If I remember correctly 'sugar, spice and everything nice' is what a certain professor used to create the powerful girls. (Does anyone remembers this cartoon?) This illustration being quite 'girly' it was perhaps natural that these words came to my mind. When it comes to fashion, I always liked different styles. (The same could be said for the literature, music or any other art form.) You see, I like 'girly' things. I adore the vintage style, be it pin ups or more modest typical 50ties looks with full skirts and pastel colours (that are quite in again). On the other hand, I'm also drawn to the opposite, the grunge style of the 90ties, sneakers, boots and tartan over sized shirts combined with bleached jeans. In addition, I have certainly shopped at men's department more then once and enjoyed wearing man-like business suits and no make up. (In fact you might have noticed that I seldom wear make up).

I think  it is fabulous how in these days, we have so much to be inspired from... 20ties, 30ties, 40ties, 50ties, 60ties, 70ties, 80ties, 90ties...all distinct periods in fashion we can draw inspiration from...and if we look at them a bit closer they can tell us a lot about ourselves and about positions of man and women at that time.
That being said, picking out your outfit for the day can be like stepping in a time machine. What do I feel like wearing today? It can feel quite liberating, right?

Sometimes however we want to keep it as simple as it can be. It is all about feeling right and choosing what works best for you that day. Some styles are more controversial then others. The pin ups for example, have been both embraced and rejected by the feminist. Some claim they make women feel better about themselves and create a positive attitude towards the feminine body, while others criticize the pin up look as something that objectives women. Similarly, some say that power suits and the shoulder pads of the 80ties came to be when women tried to be more like man and compete with them in the business world. It is seen by some as women trying to hard to be like the men ( Personally I love the 80ties and the shoulder pads). The fact is that whatever you wear it can be interpret in one way or another.

At the end of the day, you should do what makes you happy. For if we are not to have fun with clothes, what are they for anyway?

All your comments mean a lot to me, even the criticism. Naravno da mi puno znači što ste uzeli vrijeme da nešto napišete, pa makar to bila i kritika. Per me le vostre parole sono sempre preziose anche quando si tratta di critiche.
