Mostar (photography)













When I had taken these photographs (one sunny winter day not long ago), I had no idea that some of these buildings will go up in flames this evening. C'est la vie.

Kada sam uslikala ove fotografije (jednog sunčanog zimskog dana nedavno), nije mi palo na pamet da će neke od ovih zgrada izgorjeti večeras. To je život.

    Mostar, da. Nikada nisam bila tamo, ali "Mostarske kiše" su jedann od načina da ga čovek zavoli, iako ne zna ništa o njemu. Sam naslov je mnogo romantičan, iako pesma govori o Svetlani, a ne o gradu.

WELCOMING SPRING WITH 15 IDEAS TO COMBAT SPRING FATIGUE!

 Welcome Spring! We welcome thy beauty! We also fear thy evil twin- The Spring Fatigue. Like in a telenovela, one rarely comes without the other. Both are inevitable, so let's just welcome the first and try to manage the other until it perishes (in a slow motion) in a fatal car accident. That's what always happened in the Latin soap operas (i.e telenovelas) that were all the rave when I was a kid (and that are the reason why many Croatian people have a pretty good passive understanding of Spanish without even learning it in school, but I digress).  My point is that the beautiful Spring often comes accompanied with Spring Fatigue that can range from mild tiredness to extreme exhaustion. Let there be colour! (outfit post) / Neka bude boja (odjevna kombinacija)

It was over 40 degrees Celsius (that's over 100 Fahrenheit) when these photographs were taken. Seriously! I'm obviously a desert type when I'm able to enjoy being out at midday in a city that is practically an oven. If you did not know Mostar city is surrounded by mountains and hills which pretty much turns it into an urban oven. Yes, this city is a champion of unbelievably high temperatures during the Summer. So, this hat was as much a necessity as a fashion statement. Wearing a hat when temperature is over 100 Fahrenheit is a sound idea, believe me. Speaking of Fahrenheits,  have you read  Fahrenheit 451  by Ray Bradbury? You should, you know, it really is a brilliant dystopian novel. I find it uncanny how much some writers were able to guess the future, down to minute details.   Hello readers and fellow bloggers!  Welcome Spring. What does Spring means to you?  To me, it means a great many things. This year, it meant a possibility of a longer spring break. As the school I'm currently teaching in is an International one, obviously this means different cultures and nationalities. We try to organize our school breaks in a way to meet everyone's cultural needs. This year we opted for a shorter winter break in favour of a longer spring one. Therefore, I have finally found some time for blogging.  I must say it's nice being able to finally visit your blogs and all. With summer being in full spring, I caught myself thinking about iconic summer outfits. Do you know what came to my mind? Costumes/outfits worn by Monica Belluci when she played Malena Scordia in an iconic Italian movie set on Sicily.  The costumes for that movie were designed by an acclaimed Italian costume designer Maurizio Millenotti and he outdone himself! Seeing that Malena is a historical movie, Maurizio choose quite timeless outfits and cuts that will ever go out of style. That fact makes Malena movie the perfect place to look for inspiration! Moreover, I feel that Monica Belluci's personal style is quite similar to Malena's (i.e. to the style of the character she is playing). Painting of the day (A Lioness) / Slika dana (Lavica)

When I woke up this morning, the first thing I did was walk to the kitchen. Naturally, I was there to make coffee (can’t start a day without it) but while I was at it, I decided to also make a nice cup of warm chocolate. I figured that one can’t have too many warm drinks when the weather is misbehaving. Plus, I wanted something to drink right away, and because preparing coffee my style takes a while (wouldn’t be caught dead drinking instant coffee;)) I opted for warm chocolate first and it was nice but I have to remember to make my own instant coffee again, I’m sure that stuff they sell in shops are full of all kinds of unhealthy stuff. Speaking of health, I have had a cold for a week now, my throat is still sore and my vocal cords are in pitiful state.  I'm not a big fan of my voice right now, but most people seem to like it. If you spent each day on a different Croatian island, it would take you three years to visit them all, as there are more than a 1, 200 islands in Croatia. I visted only one Croatian island this Summer and I'm currently trying to work out in my head how many of them I have visited in my lifetime. Alas, only a handful of them. So many Croatian islands to visit, so little time!   Standing on my grandmother's terrace, I realize the root of my fascination with rocks. Not the precious or expenssive kind but rocks dig from earth so full of them that farming was almost impossible, rocks that build houses and fences, rocks that are testiment to a remarbakle strenght of people who populated and surrowed on islands lacking natural water resources or fertile land, defying thirst,  hunger, pirates and numerous enemy invasions.  I feel at home in both Split and Mostar but when I get off  the ferry and step onto island Hvar, I step into a magical world.
